Kristen Talks About Her New Chanel Campaign & Working With Karl Lagerfeld

Kristen Stewart had a long working relationship with Chanel — she’s been to its fashion shows and worn Chanel to the Met Gala — before Lagerfeld asked her to model this collection (which he shot himself in Paris). And, she tells PEOPLE, he’s not at all as intimidating as someone of his stature in the fashion world might seem.

“Really, his image is in contrast to what it’s really like to be around him. There’s something almost unapproachable and f—ing chic … And then you meet him and he’s actually an incredibly creative and voracious liver,” she says. “His personal library in Paris that we shot the campaign in, you look around and the staff is like, ‘Now can you believe, he’s actually read all of these books?’ and you’re like, ‘I kind of actually can.’ He’s an impressive guy. He definitely is so much more than the glasses and the hair than you might think he is.”

Chanel’s Métiers d’Art collections are produced once a year to show off the craftsmanship of its ateliers. This year’s “romantic Western”-inspired lineup debuted in Dallas, and can be seen on Stewart throughout the video. “It was about finding which pieces from the collection worked on me,” she tells PEOPLE of staging the shoot. “He’s so good at seeing something that’s not cool and making it cool. Like, I would have my leg in one position and he would throw a toothpick in my mouth and tell me to stop leaning on my leg and in two seconds it was like, ‘Oh, there it is.’ It was very cool and easy and artistic. I didn’t feel like I had to push outside of myself. I didn’t have to try to turn into someone else.”

For more from Stewart — including her relationship with the “incredibly enriching” Lagerfeld and why she really changes into sneakers on the red carpet — check out this week’s PEOPLE (on stands Wednesday) and come back Friday for even more from our interview with the star.

new BTS Pics + Video of Kristen for the Chanel shoot in Dallas

all the Pics and the video can be found at the interview :)

Last December in Dallas Kristen sat front row in a straw-strewn gigantic replica barn to watch this incredibly crafted Metiers d’Art collection storm the runway, but Mr Lagerfeld had bigger plans in store for the actress… Karl’s love of rebellious leading ladies is well documented – Alice Dellal, Lily Allen and Cara Delevingne have all previously graced Chanel campaigns – however, Kristen admits to being surprised at the maestro’s decision. ‘Typically I wouldn’t see myself as being the quintessential face of Chanel with the pearls and the classics but I liked stepping into that role and this suits me a little bit more than past collections because it is very American,’ she explains. ‘I can’t use the word bad-ass but there is something about it that is fun… fierce.’
The girl who famously ditches heels for sneaks on the red carpet has certainly found her high fashion footing in this Lagerfeld-lensed shoot – knotting the shirts herself and slipping convincingly into character. ‘I’ve had a budding relationship with Chanel and Karl since I was quite young. The first time I wore Chanel was in 2007 at the “Into the Wild” premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, then at my first Met Ball experience, The Baftas… It always felt like a privilege to wear Chanel and to be around Karl who is an artist that, for me, constantly inspires.’ With the black star gown earmarked as her favourite, and an admiration for the designer’s chic take on a Stetson-boater hybrid hat, there’s no doubting this Hollywood darling will be cutting a swathe in the ranch-ready range over the coming months.
Here Kristen answers a series of questions regarding her new fashion job…

Robert is no longer attached to ‘Mission: Blacklist’

Robert Pattinson has exited “Mission: Blacklist,” an indie thriller about the hunt for Saddam Hussein, due to scheduling issues, TheWrap has learned.

First announced in May 2012, Pattinson was set to play military interrogator Eric Maddox, who spearheaded Hussein's capture.

That role will now be recast, and the filmmakers hope to start production this fall.

Swedish filmmaker Jesper Ganslandt remains attached to direct from a script by “Band of Brothers” scribe Erik Jendresen, Dylan Kussman and Trace Sheehan, who adapted  Harper Collins’ 2008 book “Mission: Black List #1,” written by Maddox and Davin Seay.

Preferred Content's Ross Dinerstein is producing with Jendresen and Kevin Waller, as well as Bart Rosenblatt of Code Entertainment, which is also financing the film.

Pattinson has a busy spring with two films heading to Cannes — David Cronenberg's “Maps to the Stars” and David Michod's “The Rover.” He also recently wrapped the role of photographer Dennis Stock opposite Dane DeHaan's James Dean in Anton Corbijn's “Life.”

Looking ahead, Pattinson is attached to star alongside Benedict Cumberbatch in James Gray's “The Lost City of Z” and the James Marsh thriller “Hold On to Me” with Carey Mulligan. He's repped by WME, 3 Arts Entertainment, Curtis Brown Group and attorney Robert Offer.

Director Drake Doremus Talks ‘Equals’, Says Film Will Be Shot In Tokyo

Doremus is next set to direct “Equals,” a futuristic romance he aims to shoot this year. With Kristen Stewart and Nicholas Hoult starring, it certainly has a bigger feel. (Essentially it’s about an uber-rationalist society that’s been stripped of all romantic feeling, seemingly to its betterment, and what happens when a man starts developing emotions again.)
Of course, as he’s Drake Doremus, he’s hardly doing it the conventional way either. The movie will be shot in Tokyo (Doremus wanted the futurism the city can offer) and financed not by a studio but with Indian Paintbrush, an independent company that bankrolled Wes Anderson’s “Moonrise Kingdom” as well as “Like Crazy.”
“It feels more commercial to me,” he said of the new project. “Maybe some people would need to do something even more commercial. But it needs to feel like me.” He paused,“Like I said, life’s too short.”

Fashion Stylist Tara Swennen Talks Kristen, Vogue, & Her Favorite Career Moment

R29: Which is your big, ‘Wow, I can’t believe I made that happen’ moment?”

Tara Swennen: “I don’t know if there’s one in particular that stands out. I have to say I’ve been really lucky and have had some great moments with my girls on the carpet. One of the greatest honors I’ve had in my career was last year when Kristen was named one of the top 10 most fashionable celebs in Vogue. That grouping of her looks from 2013 — that was a really great honor. Getting a nod from Anna Wintour is always an amazing thing. That in and of itself was probably one of my prouder moments. But, I don’t know if I can pick one look.”

Dane DeHaan talks about Robert and 'LIFE'

Dane DeHaan has revealed that he made no attempt to become friends with Robert Pattinson before they started filming Life

The Amazing Spider-Man actor stars alongside the Twilight heartthrob in Anton Corbijn's drama, focusing on the friendship between Life photographer Dennis Stock (Pattinson) and Hollywood icon James Dean (De Haan).
"It's an interesting relationship that they have. They do become close in the film, and they do become friends, but they're not friends from the start," he said.
"So what we did is we didn't try to make any sort of friendship beforehand. We got there and that's when our friendship started. So as it was happening on screen, it was also happening in real life."
The 28-year-old said they bonded on set, adding: "He's a really nice guy. He's totally chill and he's fun to hang out with, and he's fun to be on set with. We had a great time."

Sir Ben Kingsley and Joel Edgerton also star in Life, which wrapped shooting on April 1.
"We just finished a week and a half ago," Dane said.
Life, which is now in post-production, is expected to be released later this year.

Shooting is now set for The Big Shoe in Sept. 2014, on location in South Africa

Shooting is now set for The Big Shoe in Sept. 2014, on location in South Africa. The film features @mrjimsturgess.

According to PRODUCTION WEEKLY, shooting is now set to begin for The Big Shoe in September 2014, on location in South Africa.  Directed by Steven Shainberg, the cast includes Jim Sturgess, Kristen Stewart, and Elizabeth Banks.

A gifted shoe designer, Nate, is forced to break free from a family who want to cheapen his art for their own commercial gain. “The Big Shoe” is a touching an sexy love story and a classic boy-to-man coming-of-age tale, with the colorful backdrop of the fashion/shoe industry. When a muse is strategically ‘planted’ along Nate’s path by his mother, he begins to embrace the mad “logic” of the creative drive, allowing his own deep impulses and wishes to finally be expressed and experienced. He’s revealing to her and to the world his secret. And, while it may make no real practical “sense” to do his art (shoemaking), Nate must.
